People with intellectual and developmental disabilities often require assistance to develop an understanding of sexuality. There is a historic precedence for the routine denial of this basic human need. What is suggested is a comprehensive approach that goes beyond traditional sex education programs to one that involves a person-centered support team with individualized assessment of needs.
